As CEO or business owner, you are among the most isolated people in the world. Having risen to your position because of your strengths as a leader, once there, you likely have few who you can rely on for objectivity, confidentiality and action during difficult times. You also know that organizational issues – legacy structure and systems, embedded corporate culture, entrenched leadership, and poor communication – can make it difficult to switch gears quickly enough to keep your company from stalling. Without the proper guidance, expertise, and experience, urgent change can risk the very core knowledge, people, traditions, and processes that define your company.
Lucinda Doran’s focus is on the inflection points in organizations. Her specialty is the people-and-knowledge rich service operations and the organization – its structure, infrastructure, people, communications and culture. She adds value by filling the important gap between strategy, planning & execution without the financial or structural burden of a permanent executive. As outsourced Operating Executive or Chief of Staff Lucinda can do what your existing leadership either can’t or don’t want to do or don’t have time for. She:
- Focuses the change effort quickly while ensuring delivery of the day-to-day;
- Provides senior bench strength to augment part-time or temporarily substitute on the leadership team;
- Protects the remaining and new executives from the “dirty hands” problem associated with tough transitions, leaving the leadership team unfettered to build out the plan after the framework has been established; and
- Gets out of the way by transitioning the work and learning, ensuring organizational and team self-reliance and accountability.
- Guarantees confidentiality throughout the process
She understands where you come from, having founded, led, and successfully taken companies through
- Growth
- Succession
- Acquisition
- Turnaround
- Professionalization
- Divestiture
Lucinda’s experience and expertise have been called on to:
- Set in place the structure, systems, culture, and key senior talent to enable a financial institution’s rapid global growth, doubling their size in 12-18 months;
- Guide a third-generation business through the head and heart questions associated with whether, when, and to whom to sell;
- Plan and implement an organizational cleanup that involved a restructure, reposition, and stage to sell a private equity-held manufacturing firm. As a result of her work, the firm was bifurcated and sold to two buyers, creating more value for the owners;
- Lay the foundation for and oversee integration, key executive retention/hiring, and communication processes during the acquisition of a multi-billion dollar public food service company by a smaller one;
- Build and develop the senior management team for a new corporate umbrella created by the merger and integration of three national building supply companies held by a private equity firm; and
- As part of an interim leadership team, create and implement a 2-year strategic distribution, r&d and leadership plan to arm a former cash cow against increasing competition.
